We are a dynamic and innovative technology company specialising in developing a cutting-edge market intelligence platform focused on business and investment data in emerging markets. Our platform empowers businesses and investors with actionable insights and data-driven strategies to make informed decisions in these rapidly evolving economies. We are seeking a skilled Product Lead to join our team in Nairobi and contribute to the ongoing enhancement and development of our platform.

As a Product Lead at our company, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining our market intelligence platform. Your expertise in various technologies will be strategically assigned to different aspects of the platform's architecture, ensuring a high-performance, user-friendly, and scalable application that meets the needs of our clients in emerging markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Guide the product team through the development and execution phases of AgBase, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives and user requirements. Formulate and iterate on the product strategy to optimise for scalability, efficiency, and impact.

  • Technical Expertise: Direct technical efforts in evolving the platform, encompassing features from bulk uploads and advanced scraping capabilities (ranging from 50 to 250 sources) to innovative solutions like dynamic datapoint creation and a conversational query system for business intelligence.

  • Milestone Delivery: Oversee the successful delivery of key milestones, including but not limited to:

  • Development and refinement of scraper versions and UI enhancements for a better user experience.

  • Implementation of an authorization and authentication system with comprehensive fine-grained policies, email automation for content distribution, and SEO-driven development and  optimisations.

  • Strategic planning for upcoming quarters, ensuring the platform's growth and relevance.

  • Integration of invoicing functionalities, subscription management and data export features to streamline operations for users.

  • Continuous development of the AgBase platform, including version upgrades, feature expansions, and user interface improvements according to future user-interface research studies  and A/B testing.

  • Enhancement of user engagement through new UI designs, user analytics, and automated A/B testing systems.

  • User-Centric Development: Prioritise user experience by addressing UI bugs, refining filters and dashboards, and introducing new functionalities to meet diverse user needs, including profiles and engagement metrics.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of proven experience in product management, with a focus on building technological products  or business intelligence platforms.

  • 10+ years of proven experience in overseeing end-to-end software development processes as well as strong coding skills, both backend and frontend.

  • 10+ years of proven experience in leading product development from ideation through launch and iteration.

  • 10+ years of proven experience in SEO strategies and optimisation.

  • Deep understanding of data scraping, analysis, and visualisation technologies.

  • Proficiency in agile methodologies and tools for project management.

  • Outstanding communication skills, able to articulate technical and business insights to diverse audiences..

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organisational skills.

  • Proficiency in agile project management methodologies.

  • Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and leadership skills.

  • Excellent communication abilities, with the skill to convey complex technical and business concepts to a diverse audience.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of payment and invoicing systems integration (e.g., Xero, Stripe).

  • Familiarity with data privacy and security protocols.

Scope Year 1

Backend and frontend scope of work

  • Develop, design and document new features of AgBase Platform v1.0 together with stakeholders.

  • Bulk upload data feature (organisations, deals, people, etc.)

  • 50+ automated data gathering software for the following markets: Africa, Asia, Latin America, Agriculture and food.

    • Grow the number of automated data gathering software to more than 250+ by the end of the year.

  • User Interface for internal data analysts to manage the automated data gathering system as well as quickly help with data cleaning.

  • Fine-grained authorization and authentication attribute-based system using policies.

  • Conversational Query System BI with user interface.

  • Configurable email automation communication system based on customer preferences as well as based on predefined rules.

  • Full SEO optimizations for Briter Bridges  website

  • Subscription management system with automatic invoice generation integrated with third-party tools.

  • Ability to select, filter and post process export in multiple formats from a simple user interface for the internal data analyst team.

  • Dynamic data points creation from user interface with attributes connected to the authorization system.

  • Extend existing database design to fit new types of entities, such as projects, corporates, LPs, tech stack etc.

  • Develop & implement both BB website and AgBase website, automatically connected to the database through an authorization system to prevent data exfiltration.

  • Increase data tracking of  usage of the platform as well as extract common user flows to define new data-driven features for the platform.

  • Design, define and implement new user interface based on predefined user personas.

  • Design, define and implement a crowdsourcing system based on the user personas.

  • Planning for Q3/Q4
